Before You Select

Some destinations are not eligible for cover

Go Insurance does not provide cover for travel to Belarus, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia or Ukraine — regardless of the current advisory level, and regardless of which region you select. This is set out in the General Exclusions in the PDS.

Go Insurance also does not cover travel to any destination the Australian Government rates Level 4 “Do not travel”. 21 destinations are currently in that category. Selecting an “all of” region does not extend cover to a Level 4 destination inside that region.

Advisory levels are sourced from the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (Smartraveller). Levels change at any time — check current Smartraveller warnings before you travel.

Name the countries, not the region, where you can.

Selecting the individual countries you are travelling to gives you a quote tailored to your itinerary. A region of travel is a quicker shortcut, but it covers every destination in that region — including places you are not visiting — so it may be priced more broadly.

Type a country to see which region it sits in and whether it is eligible for cover.

Australia & Australian Territory

Travelling within Australia?

Australia is not a region of travel — it is selected on its own. Which option you choose depends on where you are going and how you are getting there.

Select Australia

Travel anywhere in Australia, including Christmas Island, the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Norfolk Island, and Heard Island and McDonald Islands. These are Australian territory, so they are not overseas destinations even though they sit a long way offshore.

Select Domestic Cruising (Australia)

Cruises that stay in Australian waters and call only at Australian ports. If the itinerary stops anywhere overseas — New Zealand, the Pacific islands, Papua New Guinea — it is not a domestic cruise. Choose the cruise option that covers every port on the itinerary, including any you only step ashore at briefly.

Select Worldwide

The Australian Antarctic Territory and Macquarie Island are Australian territory, but they are selected under Worldwide rather than Australia. So is Antarctica (Sight seeing flight) — a flight that departs Australia, overflies Antarctica and returns without landing.

Select Antarctica (Cruising)

Voyages that land in Antarctica or the subantarctic islands. This is a separate selection from the sightseeing flight, and from the Arctic Cruising option at the other end of the world.

Common Questions

Choosing your region of travel

Which region do I select for Bali?

Select All of Asia (Southeast Asia). Bali is part of Indonesia, so it also falls within All of Asia and Worldwide (anywhere in the world) if your trip takes in more than Southeast Asia. Choose the narrowest region that covers every destination on your itinerary. More detail on our Bali travel insurance page.

Should I select Europe or Worldwide for a trip to the UK?

Select Europe if the United Kingdom, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland or Ireland is the furthest you are travelling. Choose Worldwide only if the same trip also takes in somewhere outside Europe — a stopover in Dubai or Singapore on the way, for example, counts. See our UK travel insurance and Europe travel insurance pages.

What do I select if I am going on a cruise?

Cruises are selected as their own region of travel rather than by country. Choose the cruise option that covers the full itinerary, including any port you only step ashore at briefly. If the ship stays in Australian waters and calls only at Australian ports, select Domestic Cruising (Australia); if it visits New Zealand, the Pacific islands or Papua New Guinea, it is not a domestic cruise. Our cruise travel insurance page has more.

Does the region I select affect my premium?

Yes. Your travel locations are one of the factors used to calculate your premium, so a Worldwide policy generally costs more than one limited to a single region. Selecting a wider region than you need means paying for cover you will not use — but selecting too narrow a region can leave you without cover where you are actually going. The PDS sets out how premiums are calculated, and includes our Financial Services Guide.

My trip covers more than one region. What do I select?

Select the single region that includes every destination on your itinerary. If your trip spans two regions that do not sit inside one another — Europe and South America, for instance — select Worldwide (anywhere in the world). Note that All of Asia already includes everything in All of Asia (Southeast Asia), and that Turkey sits in both All of Asia and Europe.

Am I covered if my destination has a Do Not Travel warning?

No. Go Insurance does not cover travel to any destination the Australian Government rates Level 4 “Do not travel” on Smartraveller, and selecting an “all of” region does not extend cover to a Level 4 destination inside that region. Separately, we do not cover travel to Belarus, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia or Ukraine regardless of the advisory level. Advisory levels change at any time — check the current Smartraveller warnings and the PDS before you book.

Is Australia a region of travel?

No — Australia is selected on its own rather than as a region. That includes Christmas Island, the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Norfolk Island, and Heard Island and McDonald Islands, which are Australian territory rather than overseas destinations. The Australian Antarctic Territory and Macquarie Island are the exception: they are Australian territory but are selected under Worldwide.

My destination is not on the list. What should I do?

Try searching the country name rather than a city, island or region — Bali appears under Indonesia, and Hawaii under the United States of America. Territories are usually listed under their own name rather than the country that administers them. If you still cannot find it, contact our team before you buy rather than selecting the closest match.
