Comprehensive Travel Insurance for Australian Travellers
Go Insurance builds Australian travel insurance you can tailor — and comprehensive is what you get when you turn every dial up rather than down. Start a quote at goinsurance.com.au, choose a higher plan level, keep every module, and add the specialist cover your trip calls for.
At the top of the range sits Go Ultra, with the highest sums insured and access to Cancel For Your Reason (CFYR) — our optional upgrade for cancelling on your own terms. Cover is always subject to the PDS, including its limits, conditions and exclusions.
What Comprehensive Looks Like at Go
Comprehensive Isn’t a Product — It’s a Setting
Most insurers sell “comprehensive” as a fixed package: one bundle, one price, take it or leave it. If the bundle happens to suit your trip, that works out. If it doesn’t, you’re paying for cover you can’t use and still short in the places you needed depth.
Go Insurance works differently. Every policy starts from the same foundation and you decide how far to take it — which is why the same quote engine produces both a stripped-back budget travel insurance policy and the fullest cover we offer. Comprehensive simply means keeping every module, choosing a higher plan level, and adding the specialist extensions your itinerary calls for.
That matters most on the trips where a lot is riding on it — a prepaid European tour, a cruise booked eighteen months out, a ski season, a wedding overseas. Read how our cover works to see the full range of choices before you quote.
What a Comprehensive Build Covers
Three sections are always included in a Go Insurance policy and can’t be removed. A comprehensive build keeps the four optional modules alongside them, so nothing is switched off.
How Far Up the Range You Go
Plan level sets the sums insured across every section of your policy. Keeping all the modules is one decision; how much cover sits inside each is the other.
How to Build Comprehensive Travel Insurance
Four choices during the quote at goinsurance.com.au take a policy from entry level to the fullest cover we offer. The premium updates as you go, so you can see exactly what each step buys you.
Choose a Higher Plan Level
Move up to Elite or Go Ultra for higher sums insured across every section — medical, cancellation, property and the rest. This is the single biggest lever on how much cover you actually hold.
Keep Every Module
Leave Cancellation & Curtailment, Property, Disruption and Legal switched on. Nothing gets removed, so there’s no gap to discover at claim time — particularly the rental vehicle excess benefit, which sits inside Legal.
Insure the Full Trip Cost
Set your cancellation amount to what the whole trip is worth, not just the portion you think is non-refundable. Under-insuring here is the most common reason a cancellation claim falls short of what someone expected.
Select a Nil Excess
Choosing a nil excess on a single-trip policy means you contribute nothing towards a claim. It raises the premium, but it removes the out-of-pocket cost at exactly the moment you’d least want one.
Go Ultra
Go Ultra is the highest plan level we offer. Every section carries our largest sums insured, and it’s the only level that lets you add Cancel For Your Reason.
Cancel For Your Reason (CFYR)
CFYR lets you cancel for personal reasons that standard cancellation cover doesn’t reach — a relationship breakdown, a companion pulling out, priorities shifting. The conditions are strict, so it’s worth reading them before you count on it.
Specialist Cover You Can Add On Top
Comprehensive isn’t only about plan level. These optional extensions cover the things a standard policy isn’t built for, and each is selected during the quote.
When Comprehensive Cover Is Worth It
The more you’ve committed before you leave, the more a comprehensive build earns its premium. It tends to be the right call when:
Comprehensive Doesn’t Mean Unlimited
No travel insurance covers everything, and the fullest build we offer is no exception. These apply at every plan level, including Go Ultra:

Comprehensive Travel Insurance — Frequently Asked Questions
What Australian travellers most often ask about taking a Go Insurance policy to its fullest cover.
What is comprehensive travel insurance?
Comprehensive travel insurance is a policy with every available section switched on and higher sums insured across the board. With Go Insurance it isn’t a separate product — it’s a standard policy with all four optional modules kept in, a higher plan level selected, cancellation cover set to your full trip cost, and any specialist extensions your trip needs added during the quote.
What’s the difference between comprehensive and budget travel insurance?
They’re the same policy with different settings. A budget build starts at the Basic plan level and removes optional modules you won’t use, which lowers the premium. A comprehensive build keeps every module, moves up to Elite or Go Ultra for higher limits, and often adds a nil excess. Overseas Medical Expenses, Personal Liability and COVID-19 cover are included either way.
Which Go Insurance plan gives the most cover?
Go Ultra. It carries the highest sums insured across every section of the policy and is the only plan level that lets you add Cancel For Your Reason. It’s designed for high-value or heavily prepaid trips. Note that Go Ultra is a single-trip plan level — Annual Multi-Trip is available on Basic, Plus and Elite instead.
What is Cancel For Your Reason (CFYR) and who can add it?
CFYR is an optional upgrade available only with Go Ultra, and it can reimburse up to 75% of your non-refundable trip costs to a maximum of $50,000 per policy if you cancel for a personal reason standard cancellation cover doesn’t include. You must buy it within 3 days of your first trip payment, depart at least 7 days later, and cancel at least 48 hours before departure. Full conditions are on our Go Ultra + CFYR page.
Can I choose a policy with no excess?
Yes — on single-trip policies you can select a nil excess, meaning you contribute nothing towards a claim. The standard excess is $200 and the selectable range runs from $0 to $300, so choosing nil raises your premium in exchange for no out-of-pocket cost at claim time. On Annual Multi-Trip policies the excess is fixed and can’t be adjusted.
Does comprehensive travel insurance cover pre-existing medical conditions?
Not automatically — existing medical conditions need to be declared and accepted regardless of which plan level you choose. Moving up to Elite or Go Ultra raises your sums insured but doesn’t change how conditions are assessed. Declare everything during the quote; an additional premium may apply. Our medical conditions page explains the process.
Can I get comprehensive cover on an Annual Multi-Trip policy?
Yes, up to the Elite plan level. Annual Multi-Trip is available on Basic, Plus and Elite, so you can keep every module and take Elite limits across an unlimited number of trips in the year. Go Ultra and CFYR are single-trip only, so if you want the very highest limits or the CFYR upgrade, you’d take those on an individual trip instead.
Does comprehensive travel insurance cover everything?
No, and it’s worth being clear about that. Every section has its own limits and sub-limits, undeclared existing medical conditions aren’t covered, professional or paid sport is excluded at every level, and some destinations aren’t covered at all. A higher plan level raises the ceilings rather than removing them. The PDS sets out exactly what applies, and our FAQs cover the common edge cases.
