Response to Cover for Travel to Pakistan
On 7 May 2025 (AEST), India launched targeted missile strikes on alleged terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir in response to the 22 April 2025 terror attack in the Baisaran Valley, which killed 26 civilians.
As a result, Smartraveller advises that flight disruptions are likely, with potential airspace and airport closures. Travellers should check directly with airlines for the latest updates.
We advise the following General Exclusion 2 will apply to any claims related to the ongoing situation in Pakistan:
General Exclusion 2:
Loss or damage directly or indirectly occasioned by, happening through, or in consequence of war, invasion, acts of foreign enemies, hostilities (whether war be declared or not), civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, military or usurped power, or the confiscation, nationalisation, requisition, destruction, or damage to property by or under the order of any government or public or local authority.
Coverage Clarification:
- Section 1 Coverage:
- Coverage under Section 1 may apply to cancelled or curtailed travel arrangements, provided that they meet our predefined criteria for eligible events.
- This coverage does not extend to any events connected to hostilities, such as travel delays or evacuation due to escalated hostilities.
- Medical and Other Claims:
- Claims for medical expenses or other claims unrelated to the hostilities will be assessed as usual.
Our Emergency Assistance team will continue to provide non-financial support to policyholders impacted by hostilities and assist with medical or other claims unrelated to the current hostilities.
We suggest all travellers remain up to date with the latest advice from Smartraveller.
